Ignacio Romagosa is an agronomist and plant breeder, professor at the University of Lleida and Director of the Agrotecnio Center, belonging to the Network of Research Centers of the Generalitat de Catalunya. He was the past Chairman of the Agrifood Area of the Ibero-American Program of Science and Technology for Development (CYTED). He is author or co-author of 15 books and/or book chapters and about 100 articles that appear in the Science Citation Index. His research work focuses on barley genetics and breeding, particularly in genotype x environment interaction and adaptation. He currently works on issues related to the barley grain composition in bioactive components and its functional properties.
Professor Cristobal Uauy is a Project Leader in wheat genetics and genomics at the John Innes Centre. He studied Agronomy in Chile and holds a PhD in Genetics from the University of California, Davis. His programme focuses on the identification of genes involved in wheat productivity traits, including grain size/yield, and the development of tools and resources to enhance scientific discovery. Uauy is using molecular genetic approaches to identify these genes and enhance the translation of this knowledge into improved varieties for industry and consumers.
Valeria Terzi is Research Director at CREA-GB, Research Centre for Genomics and Bioinformatics, which operates under the supervision of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture. Her scientific activity has been focused on genetics and molecular biology of cereal response to biotic and abiotic stresses and to plant development. She has applied molecular technologies in the field of genetic improvement of barley and other autogamous cereal crops (durum wheat and oats) and in the agri-food technologies sector, with studies and actions for the exploitation of genetic resources and development of supply chain processes. She activated applied research lines, directed towards the raising and control of quality and safety aspects within conventional and organic agri-food chains. In this regard, she is involved in studies on the use of natural molecules and soil microbiota for the control of plant pathogens and for increasing plant resistance to environmental stresses.
His Research is focused in Ecophysiology, photosynthesis and crop productivity in relation to environment and including the development of phenotyping protocols.
