The Second Spanish Symposium on Cereal Physiology and Breeding (#SEFiMeC) is organized within the framework of the Network of  Scientific Excellence FiRCMe  (Physiology of Yield and Quality for Cereal Breeding) funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Science and Universities linking some of the Spanish groups of international prestige in physiology and / or genetic / cereal breeding. The primary objective of the Network is to generate activities that maximize opportunities to understand the physiological and genetic determinants of yield (both potential and under adverse conditions) and quality (both functional and nutritional) of major cereals and thus contribute to genetic improvement. To do this, the network carries out actions that promote communication, research, and internationalization of research groups.

SEFiMeC II, is organized  as part of this network,  open to the entire Mediterranean scientific community interested in these subject areas, although contributions from non – Mediterranean countries will also be welcome.

The aim of this symposium is to create a fertile space for scientific exchange and to facilitate synergies between scientific groups working on issues of physiology, genetics and cereal breeding. Collaborations and synergies between Spanish groups and also with groups from other countries will improve the level of multidisciplinarity, impact and internationalization of research activities in the search for solutions to global agriculture, and particularly the Mediterranean areas. Therefore, this event may facilitate the establishment of consortia that could potentially participate in actions of the Euro – Mediterranean initiative Partnership on Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) Focusing on sustainable water management and food systems.

This  Second Symposium Spanish Physiology and cereal breeding  will focus on physiology and quality improvement (industrial, nutritional) without losing sight of the aspects of physiology and yield improvement. This implies any work that focus on aspects of yield, quality and physiology are welcome.
